Lowndes basketball games canceled amid tragedy
VALDOSTA ? The scheduled varsity basketball games betwee? Lowndes and Brunswick were canceled Friday night followin the? tragic happenings at Lowndes High School.
School officials canceled the games after the body of a student was found lifeless in the school?s old gymnasium earlier in the day.
The scheduled Region 1-AAAAAA games have not been rescheduled, according to Lowndes boys? basketball coach Kingston Clark.
Clark said that information was not available and won?t be until the school administration takes further action.
Friday?s death of a student is the fourth current or former Lowndes student that has died in the past 12 months.
Last February, Lowndes student trainer Dominique Crenshaw died after a long fight with cancer. In June, former Viking football standout Ed Christian was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight at a pool party in Auburn, Ala. Less than three weeks later, rising senior Jacob McCook died of brain damage after he fell from the bed of a pick-up truck, helping family-friends move.
