The Fox Performing Arts Center has announced its fall season for 2012 and a couple of shows for 2013 and we?re seeing some newer acts come through the area as well as some returning ones. Fielding has a story with the full lineup of entertainment, but I wanted to take minute and look at the music.

The biggest highlight of the season in my mind is Rufus Wainwright, who comes to the Fox on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Wainwright has played venues as diverse as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. I think he is exactly the kind of artist who should play the Fox. He has a devoted following, his music will shine in a theater setting and I think the Fox?s sound system will serve him well.

His concert also has a shot at luring those out-of-towners that the city of Riverside touted the Fox would bring since Wainwright?s only remotely close date at this point is Tuesday, Oct. 9 in Santa Barbara.

Blues Traveler is playing the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside.

Another one of the highlights is a night I shall call ?Harmonica Fever.? In reality, the Fox is calling it ?A Big Night of Blues and Rock.? Headlining the show will be Fox newbie Blues Traveler, who will bring harmonicas and ?Run Around? Riverside on Thursday Sept. 20. They will be supported by Fox vets the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Riverside?s own Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers.

I think that bill is diverse enough to attract a mix of blues and rock fans. I wonder if you can bring your own harmonica in for this date.

Then, Three Dog Night is playing Friday, Sept. 28 and the group famous for hits like ?Joy to the World? and ?Mama Told Me Not to Come? will complete its trifecta of Northern I.E. theatres. They played both the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga and the California Theatre of the Performing Arts in San Bernardino in the past. The group also played the city of Beaumont?s July 4th celebration in 2011.

On Friday, Oct. 19, ?This is the ?60s? takes over. It?s being billed as ?A Live Multimedia Musical Experience.? That makes me think it may be along the lines of ?Rain? and Jason Bonham?s Led Zeppelin Experience.

We?ll continue to time travel when ?90s band Tonic plays Saturday, Nov. 3. The press release promises a special co-headliner for the show to be announced later, too. My first guess would be Blues Traveler, but they?re already on the bill. Has anyone seen Third Eye Blind around? What about Marcy Playground? They would be a good match. You know Tonic from the hit ?If You Could Only See? and the 2012 Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival.

On Friday, Nov. 9, we?ll get returning act America with openers the Little River Band. All that?s missing is Firefall.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, it?s a folk bonanza with Judy Collins and Roger McGuinn, of Byrds fame. Now?s a good time for a blog singalong break.

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)

Moving on, we?re getting another show on Friday Nov. 30 that?s super secret right now because of contract negotiations, according to the Fox?s press release. We?ll get the announcement in early September, but it?s being billed as ?A Spectacular ?80s Rock Show.?

My guesses: Pat Benatar and/or The Go-Go?s. In my wildest dreams I want it to be Duran Duran. Who do you think it will be?

And we have two shows for the 2013 calendar, too. It?s classic rock-tastic.

Dennis DeYoung brings ?The Music of Styx Live in Concert? to the Fox on Friday, March 1. I have four words to say about this: ?Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.?

Then, Foreigner, who has played everywhere from area casinos to Ontario?s Citizens Business Bank Arena, will perform on Saturday, April 20. Yes, that means I will get to write about ?Aqua Teen Hunger Force? and the Foreigner belt again.

Tickets for the shows will start to go on sale Friday, Aug. 3. You can pick them up at the Fox Box Office or on Ticketmaster.

So tell us, what do you think of the lineup? Are there any shows you want to see? Do you think it appeals to more audiences than previous seasons?
