Broadband Providers ? Comparing the Cost and Features

Every expense has to be carefully considered and compared when you?re a small business owner. There are several things to look for when you?re trying to find broadband providers. One of the well-known broadband providers is Comcast Cable Provider and they offer an Internet access that?s high speed for under $20. Small business owners can find deals in which they get free cable modems with their broadband purchase and can even get cash back.

Broadband connections are up to 870 times faster than dial-up access, which is why many small business owners turn to companies like Charter Communications, where the company gets free installation of their Motorola Modem.

Some service providers, like Verizon, offer DSL Broadband that has added features such as email accounts, 10 MB of space for files, and live tech-support with 24/7 access at only $17.99 per month.

Earthlink is also a broadband provider that?s quite popular. For under $20 a month, you?ll be offered features like spam blocker, 24-hour tech support, pop-up blocker, and extra hours of free dial-up.

If your small business is already using AT&T phone services, then you may want to add Broadband to your bill and save almost $5 a month in comparison to other providers. Switching them as your broadband provider is an easy process because their service is already running in many homes and offices.

AT&T offers unlimited high speed Internet access that comes with email, online storage for files and images, and a complete security suite that includes a pop-up blocker, firewall, spam blocker, anti-virus and spyware protector.

When it comes to choosing a provider for your broadband Internet access, the cost is not the only thing you need to compare. Some of the extra features some companies offer will allow you to cancel subscriptions to other sites, by letting you combine all of the features into a single product.

Another tip would be staying alert for better deals even after you?ve signed up with a broadband provider and you can also check to see if you the introductory price of your provider is better than the plan you?re currently on. If you call and request it, they?ll sometimes let you switch to the better deal. It?s unlikely they?ll tell you if they have cheaper pricing so it?s better to stay alert for better deals. With broadband providers all competing for your business, you can pick and choose and leverage the power of your purchase.

"Friends With Kids" has laughs of an all-night crying jag

LOS ANGELES, March 8 (TheWrap.com) - For decades, the movies have encouraged us to dare to be different, to step out of our comfort zones, to strive for greatness. But now we have Jennifer Westfeldt as the patron saint of safety, conformity and the dominant paradigm.

Westfeldt, you may recall, wrote and starred in the wispy "Kissing Jessica Stein," a comedy about a young woman frustrated with the dating scene who flirts with becoming a lesbian before getting all "hmm, no thanks" about it. Now she's putting the "threat" in "triple-threat" as the writer, director and star of "Friends With Kids," about a young woman who decides that she can have a baby outside of the context of marriage until she changes her mind and falls in love with the BFF who impregnated her.

And unless "reticence" is high on your list of what makes filmmakers interesting, there's not much to like about Westfeldt's directorial debut, a shockingly unfunny comedy that wastes both a promising situation and an extraordinary ensemble cast that includes Adam Scott and a quartet of "Bridesmaids" alumni: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jon Hamm (Westfeldt's real-life significant other) and Chris O'Dowd.

Young professionals Julie (Westfeldt) and Jason (Scott), platonic chums since college, have witnessed first-hand what parenthood has done to their coupled friends Ben and Missy (Hamm and Wiig) and Leslie and Alex (Rudolph and O'Dowd): sleep deprivation, frayed nerves, bed death and, horror of horrors, relocations to Brooklyn.

Deciding they can have an infant without it ruining their lives, Julie and Jason decide to matter-of-factly get pregnant, share the responsibilities, and eventually date other people once the little tyke is sleeping through the night. But this is a Jennifer Westfeldt joint, and anyone attempting to be non-traditional is set up to be knocked over.

Cue the arrival of the romantic rivals: Jason falls for gorgeous dancer Mary Jane (Megan Fox), who we're supposed to hate because she doesn't want kids, while Julie becomes smitten with contractor Kurt (Edward Burns), a nice-guy single dad who's just too good to be true. (Or, as played by Burns, too good to be interesting.)

You can pretty much map out every move that "Friends With Kids" makes, which would be forgivable if the film generated enough laughs to distract you from the by-the-numbers plot. But even worse than Westfeldt's acting -- she's so pretty but blandthat she'd make the ideal spokesperson for a makeup line called Tabula Rasa -- is her writing. There's a framework for a fun comedy here, but no one says anything witty and none of the characters (with the occasional exception of O'Dowd's laid-back Alex) emerge as anything resembling a real person with bigger problems than the kind of babies-are-a-handful stuff that Erma Bombeck once built a career out of.

Westfeldt's co-stars deserve way better than this; Scott's comic chops on "Party Down" and "Parks and Recreation" have been a joy to behold, and Rudolph once made me howl with laughter simply by saying "Toothpaste!" in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch, but this flat material grinds them into dust. Wiig and Hamm at least mine their unhappy couple for dramatic depths, so funny isn't really on the table for them, but even this talented duo barely registers.

The directing feels off as well, with scenes abruptly ending a second or two early and a general shroud of dour ugliness (the cinematography is by William Rexer) subverting the film's many New York City locations.

"Friends With Kids" was a waste of time for all involved. Audiences should avoid making the same mistake.

Philippine quake cracks buildings, injures 9

(AP) ? A moderately strong earthquake cracked buildings and knocked televisions and glassware from tables Tuesday in a central Philippine province, injuring at least nine people and sending others rushing outside in panic, officials said.

The quake came a month after 58 people died in a quake on another Philippine island.

Renato Solidum of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 struck Tuesday morning and was centered at sea just two miles (three kilometers) north of Masbate City on the island province of Masbate.

The quake, which was caused by movement in a local fault, was felt in nearby provinces.

Masbate City Mayor Socrates Tuason told The Associated Press by telephone that there were no immediate reports of major damage, and power and communications were unaffected by the temblor in his hillside city of 90,000 people.

But the quake caused an abandoned three-story building to collapse and shattered glass windows in houses and other buildings, at least two of which were cleared of people and cordoned off by police while government engineers checked their stability. Large numbers of people rushed out of homes, offices, hospitals and schools and stayed in the streets as a number of aftershocks rattled nerves after the quake.

At least nine people were slightly injured by falling objects and collapsing walls, officials said.

"I was having breakfast with my wife when everything started to shake. The TV set and glasses fell off the table," Tuason said. "When I got out, I saw all the people in the community were on the streets."

Disaster-response and first aid teams were deployed across the city, Tuason said.

Classes in all schools were suspended as buildings were checked for damage, he said, adding that he had called an emergency meeting to deal with any contingency.

Officials of Masbate, about 220 miles (350 kilometers) southeast of Manila, led earthquake drills in schools and offices just last week after a magnitude-6.9 quake left 58 people dead, 60 others missing and displaced more than 200,000 on nearby Negros island on Feb. 6.

The Philippines is in the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," where earthquakes and volcanic activity are common. The damage and casualties are compounded by poor construction in violation of building codes in the impoverished nation.

In 1990, a magnitude-7.7 quake killed nearly 2,000 people in northern Luzon region.

Real-World Solutions Of Jewelry Brands | Grow In Knowledge

There is a lot more to owning jewelry than being flashy and spending extravagant amounts of money. It can become your legacy and is a very good investment. You need to absorb all of the advice that you can, which will show you how to select quality jewelry and properly care for it.

You should carefully consider how to best care for your jewelry. Different metals, stones, and settings have different needs to ensure proper maintenance. What is beneficial to one stone or setting may hurt another. Consult with a jeweler if you are unsure exactly how to care for your own jewels.

If you are purchasing a necklace or pair of earrings that is made from genuine pearls, you should consider purchasing them as part of a set at the same time. Should you decide to purchase the matching pieces at a later time, you may have difficulty finding pearls that exactly match your original piece.

When it comes to showing off your personality through jewelry, most of the time you can make a larger statement with less. Choose bold, dramatic pieces, but limit yourself to wearing one or two at a time. A sophisticated pair of chandelier earrings can set off an outfit on it?s own, and sometimes a flashy cocktail ring is the only glitz you need to draw attention. Visit multiplayer games ? a closer look for up to date facts.

In fashion today, not everything has to be precisely matched. It?s a good idea to wear jewelry that coordinates or contrasts with your outfit. If you wear a string of yellow beads with a yellow blouse, the necklace gets lost. However, the same beads pop against the contrasting background of a white top.

Be sure to ask the person you are dealing with at the jewelry store if the gem you are trying to purchase has been treated in any way. A lot of times they are treated to make them look better and last longer, but that decreases the value of the gem.

When buying resale jewelry, remember that all that glitters may not always be gold! Find a way to get the quality of the jewelry checked, so you are not duped into believing something is worth more than it is. This will save you some heartache in the future if you are buying something you think is expensive and it turns out to be costume jewelry.

If you follow all of the handy advice that was given to you in this article you should have no problem when it comes to procuring jewelry. Do not over think things though, because that can lead to mistakes being made. Just remember what you learned and apply it to your sale.

Social Networking for Business: Twitter Etiquette

?Social Network for Business: Etiquette? series disclaimer: too many people in business (marketers, you are the #1 culprit) very obviously to users on the social networks, do not understand the medium they are working with. No one is asking you to create new content. We (we the people, the cool cats on these networks) just want you to put a little effort into making sure the way the content is presented is appropriate for where you?ve placed it.

Today we tackle the all-mighty Twitter with it?s PR-filled postings and the outright lies about being passionate about *insert B2B-sold tech object here.*

I know that there are likely thousands of ?what to do on Twitter if you?re a business? blog posts out there ? most were from two years ago a la the blog posts on Pinterest (am I a hypocrite?) swirling around right now ? but I believe the time has come to assess some of the silly little things we?re still seeing out of business Twitter handles and lay down our collective pleas for the universal ?you? to stop it. (I think I really missed an opportunity here to headline these blogs ?Hey you! Stop it.?)

As a little precursor I want to say, this list used to be so much longer. Companies are doing a great job learning from their mistakes in the past ? so don?t be discouraged when reading these, just keep them in mind.

Let?s throw out a couple of gripes we?ve all had with ?you??

1. Sounding the alarm then putting in the earplugs and taking a nice long nap: stop it! I?m actually cool with companies marketing to me assuming I?ve opted to follow them (that is a dig at promoted tweets) but then when I want to ask you something, you listen. You not only listen, you respond.

2. Acting like a robot: stop it! Continuing from the gripe above, you not only respond, you respond like a human ? not a robot. I didn?t go to your self-service site because? I didn?t want a canned answer. I know we?re all busy and it?s easier to provide our employees with canned answers rather than training them on etiquette from medium-to-medium, but by being on Twitter, this is what you signed up for. Are these standards too high? I don?t think so. Personal example: I had a jolly old exchange with UPS over them sending my package to the wrong address. I was pissed that my package was across town, but I actually forgave a pretty substantial error because the person tweeting from @UPShelp was so real with me. Now I?m not the ?every man,? but I immediately thought much more highly of UPS. (Plus my new UPS guy at home keeps bringing my packages into the foyer instead of leaving them on the porch, but I digress?)

A gratuitous why-I?m-such-a-pain-in-the-neck:

3. Businesses that ask employees to do their bidding from the employees? personal IDs: stop it! Why? For one, everyone knows it wasn?t your employees idea to tell their friends about your product ? unless they are a regular product evangelist, they won?t have followers who care and your sweet ?impressions? number means nothing. For another, what if someone then comes back to that employee to answer a question and your employee either doesn?t know the answer or is not usually on Twitter so they see it 5 days later. It reflects poorly on the company for the employee to say ?hey I don?t really know what I was just talking about, go on this wild goose chase to find out? or to not respond at all. Plus we all pity the employee and think a little less of him/her for being such a slave to the groove.

4. Hijacking a tag for competitive communications purposes: STOP, please stop. Some of you may be familiar with hijacked tags advertising adult themed products or services, but there has been talk in the past of hijacking tags for a competitive purpose. An example of this would be if during one of Coca-cola?s events that had a hypothetical hashtag of #cola2012 where attendees were discussing things happening at the event, Pepsi came in and said something like ?Pepsi is better than Coca-cola as proven in taste tests #cola2012.? All you?re doing is spamming a community. ?But it?s relevant and clever.? No it isn?t. If people wanted to talk to you about your product/service/topic they would have used a tag that called you to attention. Back off. You?re ruining Twitter.

?

What else bugs you about businesses? approaches to Twitter? Anything you see that you actually really like?
